Kellen works with Daily Acts and municipal governments to bring permaculture ideas to the world at large, using local water conservation initiatives as a funding source and a framework. With support from city partners, Kellen has helped to transform thousands of square feet of water-thirsty lawn into productive edible gardens, supported the installation of multiple home-scale greywater and rainwater harvesting systems and facilitated sustainability tours that have inspired and educated Sonoma County residents to live a more ecologically sustainable lifestyle. Most recently, she has been partnering with city staff and community volunteers to transform overwatered, underutilized lawns into public food forests at the Santa Rosa Junior College campus and a suburban home owners association, creating lush models of sustainability in places traditionally dominated by a sea of green lawns.
