We will explore the role of invasive annual grasses in the recent Sonoma County fires.
There will be a presentation of the role that vegetation, particularly invasive, non-native, annual grasses, played in the rapid and far-reaching spread of the recent Sonoma County fires. A focus will be on how these grasses affected fires in different zones: urban, suburban, country, and wildlands. Ideas will be presented about what could be done to reduce their impact for future fires, and what research needs to be done to better understand this complex, important, and rarely-discussed topic.
