Max Brotman is a radical mycologist and member of Bay Area Applied Mycology, a non-profit that practices mycoforestry with public and private land managers, and operates an open mycology laboratory at the Omni Commons in Oakland, Ca. Max tends the Courtland Creek Garden in east Oakland, Ca. Founded with Claire Brown in 2012, the CCG is a half-acre, hillside-terraced forest-garden with botanical diversity, mushroom installations, rainwater harvesting, beekeeping, neighborhood chicken co-op, and community composting. Max Brotman founded Rhizosphere Soils, which consults with farmers to design and implement large-scale compost systems for waste stream management and building soil organic-matter.
